A master-detail relationship in Salesforce is a type of association between two objects, where one is the 'master' and the other is the 'detail.' This relationship allows for the creation of roll-up summary fields on the master object, aggregating values from related detail records. Security settings on the master object apply to the detail records, making it an essential feature for data modeling and maintaining data integrity in Salesforce.
